Principles of Coaching Training

Date: Sept 8, 2012

Area: 13 - Central Texas

The Central Texas area will host a Principles of Coaching Training on Sept 8, 2012. This training is offered only for coaches that are already certified.

** Online registration will be available August 3, 2012 **

 Registration Deadline: August 24 by 5:00 p.m.

The Principles of Coaching Training builds upon the foundation established in the Special Olympics sport-specific training school. It explores, in greater detail, many of the topics discussed in the original course. In addition, new areas in the Principles of Coaching Training will give the coach a better understanding of his or her role in fulfilling the mission of the program.

The objectives of the Principles of Coaching Training are:

  • To develop an understanding of Special Olympics and to identify a coaching philosophy for each participant.
  • To apply the sports management team approach in recruiting athletes, volunteers and family members and in developing training plans for conducting sport-specific training programs for Special Olympics athletes.
  • To identify practical methods for enhancing athlete performance by developing sports confidence through effective coaching techniques.
  • To apply the principles of strength, endurance, flexibility training and nutrition as they apply to the Special Olympics athlete.
  • To provide the safest environment for Special Olympics athletes during training and competition.

After completing the practicum hours, coaches will receive a desk clock.  Coaches that have taken the Level III Tactics Training and have completed their hours, will need to attend a Level 2 Principles of Coaching Training and complete the hours in order to be recognized as a Level 3 coach.

Start: 8:30 a.m.
End: 5:00 p.m.
